RACE NOTES/QUOTES – Sunday, July 10, 2011

TELEMUNDO DRIVER SERVIA AND SPROTT DRIVER HINCHCLIFFE RAN UP FRONT IN THR HONDA INDY BUT WERE LIMITED TO 12TH AND 14TH PLACE FINISHES DUE TO CONTACT BY OTHERS

Oriol Servia, No. 2 Telemundo Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "I have raced with Marco many times.  He is an aggressive driver but he's always raced me clean.  But today, I think he just had a bad sleep or something because earlier in the race at Turn 8, I'm turning in and I see him coming all locked up and I had to move or, if not, we were both going to crash.  I passed him back after that and on this last restart he hit me.  Listen, we all make mistakes, but I stopped at his car to ask him 'Dude what happened?' and he said "You turned in on me; I was on the inside.'  I was on Justin's inside and there wasn't room for three (cars) and he punted me in the back.  I'm sure when he sees the replay he will realize it was his fault.  It's just unfortunately because we were in a good points position there and I thought our car was good at the end and I thought I had something for the guys in front.  We like to have the Telemundo car on the screen but not because of a situation like that.  It's a shame because that's going to hurt us in the points.  We were doing a great job all weekend and we're going to do it again in the next race in Edmonton."

FAST FACTS:  Ran as high as second (11 laps) but was hit by Marco Andretti while sixth and finished 12th... Was his EIGHTH Indy car race here and first since 2007.  His highest finish here of second place came in 2005, his previous time to race at Toronto with NHR.  Led the race his previous three times here.  His highest start of third place came in 2007 with Forsythe.  Has led a total of 58 laps in Toronto ('05 – 20 laps; '06 - 4; '07 – 34).  Earned four top-10 finishes in seven starts and he started in the top-five his previous three races here.  Started 3rd and finished 10th in 2007; started 5th and finished 12th in 2006; started 4th and finished 2nd in 2005; started 10th and finished 9th in 2004; started eighth and finished fifth in 2003; did not compete here in 2002; started 11th and finished 23rd in 2001; started 11th and finished 11th in 2000...Servia, a native of Catalonia, Spain, has made 23 starts for NHR which include his first Indy car win (Montreal 2005) and pole (Surfers Paradise, Australia 2005) as well as a total of eight top-three finishes.  In 2005, Servia replaced NHR driver Bruno Junqueira, who suffered a season-ending injury at the Indy 500 on May 29, and then went on to finish second to teammate Sebastien Bourdais in the point standings after 11/13 events with the team.  Servia returned to NHR in 2009 for four races with a season-best finish of fourth at Twin Ring Motegi... Is FOURTH in series point standings with 232.

James Hinchcliffe, No. 06 Sprott Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "I got around a couple of guys on the start and restarts.  We were the highest starter to choose to run on the primary Firestone tires and we had really good pace; we were out braking guys on the outside of Turn 3 and were feeling pretty good.  By starting on that tire we had two different strategy options – either stop early and go for the lucky yellow or try and extend it.  Our pace was good enough; we were passing guys so we decided to try and go long.  At one point there we were going really quick and it worked out, we ended up coming out fifth.  On that restart I got a little bit of pickup on my tires and didn't get a great start so Briscoe got by and then Paul tried to make a run on the inside of Turn 3 and I held him on the outside.  He tried to push me into the wall in Turn 4 and I held my ground.  Then going into Turn 5 I was perfectly alongside him and gave him as much room as I could on the outside but for some reason he thought the outside was going to work and he ended up cutting my tire so we had to come in and fell right to the back and that was a real unfortunate situation.  But we've had a couple of times this year where circumstances out of our control put us at the back and we've raced our way back up and that was exactly what we were doing.  We picked up guys on restarts and were passing people.  We certainly benefited from some other people's misfortunes with guys getting caught up in wrecks and stuff.  Then on that last restart we were up to eighth and looking at a solid top-10 finish and I guess Marco got into Oriol and Justin and I had no where to go.  I wasn't pushing the issue, I wasn't really involved in it.  I was sort of watching it unfold and try to set things up for Turn 3 because that's where we were really strong all day and just didn't have anywhere to go.  It's tough to bounce back from that and get so high up again with so few laps to go and have it all fall apart.  It was still a strong weekend for us.  I'm happy to put a good show on for Sprott and all the fans here in Canada as well as friends and family.  We'll try to rebound at the next race in Edmonton."

FAST FACTS:  Ran as high as fifth but received a punctured tire from Paul Tracy and then later got caught behind a multi car wreck that blocked the track...Was his FIFTH race here and FIRST in an Indy car in his home race.  First attended the event at 18 months old and returned annually.  Competed in the Firestone Indy Lights races here in 2009 and 2010 and qualified second both times.  He finished 3rd in 2009 and 10th in 2010 after contact.  He competed in the Atlantic Series here in 2006 and 2007.  In 2006, he qualified ninth and finished sixth.  In 2007, he qualified fifth and finished 11th...Earned a season-high start of seventh in Iowa and a season-high finish of fourth in Long Beach to date.  His best finish on an oval is sixth at Milwaukee...Toronto native Hinchcliffe, 24, finished second in the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights season standings after three wins and four poles.  In total he earned eight podium finishes in 13 races...Is ranked 14th with a total of 158 points and is 35 behind Rookie of the Year leader Hildebrand (193) after eight of nine events so far this season (missed St. Pete).

NEXT UP: The series will take next weekend off and return to action on July 24 for the Edmonton Indy.  Newman/Haas Racing won the inaugural race here in 2005 when Bourdais drove to victory from a 10th place start.  Bourdais won again in 2007 from a second place start and set the fastest race lap.  In total, the team has earned TWO wins (Bourdais 2007, 2005), ONE pole (Bourdais 2006) and SIX podium finishes (2nd – Bourdais 2006, Servia 2005; 3rd – Wilson 2008, Rahal 2007).
